This concert repertoire explores the musical representation of landscapes. As a centrepiece of this concert, we will revisit the work that Oriana presented in its entirety for its Canadian premiere in 2017, Looduspildid (Nature Pictures) by cherished Estonian composer Veljo Tormis. The piece features four sets of miniatures grouped by season – Spring Sketches (1966), Summer Motifs (1969), Autumn Landscapes (1964) and Winter Patterns (1968).
The concert will also feature Canadian compositions including Landscape and Night, a two-movement work that Oriana commissioned from Ruth Watson Henderson in 2004 as part of the Young Voices project, where Canadian composers set the poetry of Canadian schoolchildren to music.
