ORIANA SINGER FAQ

What is the practice schedule and location for Oriana?

The choir rehearses from 7:30 to 10:00 pm every Tuesday near Yonge and the 401. The rehearsal location has parking onsite and is within walking distance from the North York Centre subway station.

How many performances does the choir do annually?

The choir holds three seasonal concerts yearly in November/December, February/March, and May/June. Our season concerts are held at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, 477 Manning Ave, Toronto.

Some additional performances and presentations may be scheduled. These additional dates are generally known well in advance.

Is there a membership fee for singers?

Yes, each member pays an annual membership fee to contribute towards the season’s operating costs. Financial support is available on a confidential basis to members for whom the fee would otherwise be a barrier to participating.

Are there out-of-town retreats and/or performances? How are they organized?

Once a year, we hold a rehearsal retreat overnight at a location approximately 90 minutes outside Toronto (with carpooling available).  Periodically, Oriana is invited to perform outside of Toronto. These locations are usually within a reasonable distance from the city (with carpooling available) and occur on the weekends.

Larger events, requiring more time and travel costs, such as an appearance at a choral festival out of province, are discussed in advance with the choir and participation is not mandatory.

What is the audition process?

As a first step, we welcome prospective new singers to join us at any rehearsal during the year, to give you an opportunity to get to know how we work, and to allow you to determine whether we are a fit for you. After the initial rehearsal, our Artistic Director will conduct a brief one-on-one vocal assessment of your range, as well as your ear training and sight singing. If you would like to join us, please get in touch with us.
